John J. Dugan, Jr. "Jack"

August 10, 1927 - October 9, 2016

Malta- John Joseph Dugan, Jr. “Jack” passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Saratoga Center for Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Care with his loving wife at his side. Born in Albany on August 10, 1927, he was the son of the late John J. Dugan, Sr. and Celia Campbell Dugan. Upon Jack’s graduation from St. Joseph’s High School in Albany he enlisted in the Navy, where he proudly served his country during WWII in the Philippines and during the Korean War. Jack worked for the NY Telephone Company and worked at several radio stations as a disc jockey under the Your ole handle DJ-JD. He retired from the US Postal Service after a long career as a letter carrier. He was a 55 year member of NALC Local 29. He was Past President of the Albany Musician Union Local 14, and PDDGER Albany Lodge 49 BPO Elks. He was also a member of the North Albany Legion Post 1610, the North Albany Limericks, and the Sheehey Palmer VFW 6776. Jack is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mildred Gipp Dugan; his children, Kevin Dugan of Ridgecrest, CA, Rion Dugan of Napa Valley, CA, Shawn Dugan, of Latham, NY, and Alison Dugan of Colonie, NY; his step children Diane Carey (Robert) of Watervliet, NY and John Jasniewski (Bonnie) of East Berne, NY; his sisters Beverly Dugan Pach of Menands, NY and Cecile Richichki of Albany, NY; his brothers Matthew Dugan of Albany, NY, F. Richard Dugan of Lawrenceville, GA, James Dugan (Linda) of Averill Park, NY and K. Michael Dugan, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was a Special Poppie to 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Jocelyn Dugan. Jack’s family would like to thank the staff of B1 and B2 at the Saratoga Center for Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Care for their tender care. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with Jack’s family on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home, now located at 208 North Allen Street, Albany. Members of the Albany Lodge 49 BPO Elks are invited for a service honoring Jack at 4:30 pm. Funeral services Monday, October 17, 2016 at 8:00 am from the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home thence to Corpus Christi Church, 2001 Rt. 9, Round Lake at 9:00 am where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal, with Military Honors, will follow the Mass at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to remember Jack in a special way may make donations to either the Elks National Foundation or the NYS Major Projects, via the Albany Elks Lodge No 49, 25 South Allen Street, Albany, New York 12208.
