Rita D. Fino

Loudonville -Rita Fino (DeLeonardis) aged 94, passed away peacefully from this earth to her eternal home on Saturday, February 11. Rita is survived by her daughters: Peggy Fino of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Jacqueline DeSanti (Dr. Michael DeSanti) of Loudonville, Frances Fino of Ontario, NY, and Rita L. Fino (Liam Martin) of Susteren, Netherlands. Rita was the dedicated Nanny of seven beloved grandchildren: Justine Hebron, Julian Hebron, Dr. Michael DeSanti, Jr., Philip DeSanti, Elizabeth Knapp, Benjamin Fino-Radin, and Sophia Martin. Rita was the Nana Nana of Jack, Natalie, Catherine, and Zane. Many nephews and nieces also survive her. Rita was born in Proctor, Vermont in 1917, and the last child of Italian immigrant parents. She relocated to NYC as a child and was educated there, met her (late) husband Jack, and raised their family. Rita will be remembered as a proud homemaker and creative Italian cook. Her home was her pride and joy and all friends and family were welcomed with a good meal. After her children were grown, Rita worked part time at Macy’s in Jamaica, NY for many years. As a young mother, she volunteered with Girl Scouts, the American Heart Association, and her daughters’ schools. She was a Board of Elections worker in Flushing, NY. Rita was an avid traveler and visited Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, London, and Paris. She and her husband also travelled cross-country. During their retirement, she and her husband relocated to Albany, NY. Rita’s family especially wants to thank Tammi Howard and her staff at the Gerald Levine Center for Memory Care (Loudonville Home for Adults) for their love, affection, and consistent care. Thank you to Dr. David Hornick and Craig Ritchie. Their cooperation with The Community Hospice of Albany helped Rita’s family through this difficult time. Sister Nora Ann Murtagh, CSJ, and Joyce Kovalcik were dear friends of Rita. Rita was a communicant of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville. The family appreciates Jeanne Pitkin, Associate for the St. Pius X Pastoral Care Program and Beverly Costello’s third grade pen pal program of St. Pius X School.
