Gaetano C. Alonge Jr.

North Greenbush-Gaetano C. Alonge, Jr. passed away on August 12, 2017, surrounded by his loving family after battling a short illness. Born on June 7, 1929 in Hudson, NY, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Caterina Alonge. He was the proud, youngest of 11 siblings and was predeceased by 4 brothers, Charles Alonge (Catherine), Vincent Alonge (Elizabeth), Anthony Alonge (Pauline) , Francis Alonge (Anna) and 5 sisters Udienza Ciampa (Vincent), Vincenza Apicella (Paul), Lillian Alonge, Sarah Campagna (Anthony) and Marguerite Kane (Cornelius). He is survived by his sister Teresa Tanzillo (Frank) of Tucson, AZ. Gaetano was the loving and devoted husband to his beautiful wife, Dorothea (Ranieri) Alonge for over 63 years. He was a constant, strong and supportive presence in the lives of his children Therese Bennett (Thomas), North Greenbush, NY, Carrie (Catherine) Pettengill (Todd), Georgetown, TX, Dorothea Sergovich (Vlado), Latham, NY and Gaetano Alonge, III (JoAnne), Slingerlands, NY. He was the loving, doting and proud grandfather to Catie Bennett, Meagan Bennett, Robert Bennett, Amanda Pettengill Schott (Tyler), Hayley Pettengill, Maxwell Sergovich, Gianna Sergovich, Paul Gaetano Alonge, Tess Alonge and Mia Alonge. He also recently joyfully celebrated the birth of his first great grandchild, Charles Todd Schott. He attended and graduated from at St. Mary’s Academy in Hudson, NY and served in the United Sates Navy on board the USS Missouri during the Korean conflict. He graduated from Siena College in 1953 with a degree in Sociology. Gaetano started a distinguished career in the insurance industry in 1954 that lasted for over 50 years. Having held sales and managerial positions with different insurance firms, Gaetano co-founded Amsure in 1975 and became the firm’s President and principal shareholder in 1991. Over the next 15 years, with the support of Amsure’s dedicated employees and loyal clients, he grew the company into one of the most respected insurance agencies in Upstate New York. In addition to serving on numerous insurance company advisory boards and being active in several construction industry associations, he served a term as President of the Albany County Independent Insurance Agents Association. He was always known as a fair, hard working, honest professional of high integrity and extreme loyalty. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Gaetano’s life at a Funeral Mass that will be held on Friday, August 18th, at 10am at Saint Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 175 Williams Road, North Greenbush.
