Nicholas Morrell Jr

Colonie - Nicholas J. Morrell, Jr., 84, entered into eternal life peacefully at his home on June 22, 2021, with his loving family by his side. He was born in West Albany to Nicholas and Congetine (Connie) Pitcherello Morrell. Nicholas graduated from V.I. High School in 1955 and served in the US Army Reserves, where he experienced one of his favorite stories to tell: hitting Elvis Presley with a snowball. He worked at Tobin Packing Co. for 28 years, and later was a maintenance supervisor at multiple car dealerships. Nick was a lifetime member of the IBS where he served as a Board Member, West Albany Rod & Gun Club, and West Albany Fire Department #1. He absolutely loved the outdoors, fishing at his camp on Upper Saranac Lake, and hunting with his friends in Rensselaerville. Nick was an expert gardener with a specific love for growing tomatoes and garlic, and was an extremely talented woodworker. He made the most delicious Italian sausage with his cousin and best friend Larry Morrell, which went perfectly with his wife’s homemade sauce and meatballs at Sunday family dinners. Nick was brought great joy by his entire family and most of all, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His bright blue eyes, infectious laugh, and big smile will be missed by all. Nicholas is survived by his devoted loving wife of 60 years, Frances Tortorici (daughter of the late Richard and Nancy Tortorici). They truly enjoyed celebrating their anniversaries in Ogunquit, Maine for more than 30 years. He was the loving father: to Nicholas Morrell III (Lori), Lauri Powalyk (Dave), Angela Tamaroff (William); proud “Poppy” of Jessica LaBello (Michael), David Powalyk, Brittany Powalyk, Nicole Harmon, Joseph Harmon, Nina Tamaroff and Anthony Tamaroff; and, great-grandfather “Pop” to Aria and Jordan LaBello. Nicholas is also survived by his beloved sister: Theresa Gigliotti (the late A.Andrew); and brother, James J. Morrell (Kathleen); brothers-in-law Salvatore D’Amore (late sister Mary), Guy Tortorici (Nancy), Richard Tortorici (Barbara), the late Robert Tortorici; many surviving cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Please only enter the funeral home from the rear parking doorway. Unvaccinated individuals must wear a mask and practice social distancing. Funeral services Saturday at 10:00 am at Christ Our Light Catholic Church where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Those who are vaccinated need not wear a mask or social distance. Those who are not vaccinated need to wear a mask and social distance. The Rite of Committal will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass.
